In such a volatile political climate, where the coronavirus pandemic still rages and objective tenets of U.S. history are up for debate, the prospect of harsh discipline looms large in the lives of millions of American schoolchildren as they prepare to return to school. Our organizations fight across the United States for equal educational opportunities and to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline; in 2021, as the Biden Administration considers the possibility of vigorous civil rights enforcement in our nation’s schools, we acknowledge how pivotal this moment is.
