Bail Reform
On July 9, 2021, a coalition of nearly 50 civil rights groups, community organizations and faith leaders sent a letter to Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and members of the Legislature regarding bail “reform” legislation currently being considered in the Special Session. The letter outlines how the proposed legislation would increase the jail population and perpetuate race- and wealth-based disparities in pretrial detention. Find our letter here.
